We have had a very busy first few weeks in Year one! We have been settling in to our new building well and getting used to being so grown up!!
This week we have been working really hard on our Literacy and Maths and have been learning about our new topic ‘Out of this World’.
Yesterday we had a great Maths assembly in the hall with the Maths Magicians. We had to answer some really tricky questions!

A big thank you to Mr Fiocco who helped us learn some Portuguese this morning! Melissa let us borrow her Dad to teach us both colours and numbers in Portuguese. We then used our new learning to colour in Elma the elephant and the flag of Brazil. We had a lovely time! Thanks again to Melissa and her Dad :).
We had lots of fun on the potato bus this week. We learnt about how potatoes are grown and harvested before reaching our shops. We then took part in different practical activities on the bus such as de-stoning the soil before planting our potato seeds, sorting potatoes by size before weighing them and we even got to taste potatoes cooked with different spices.
We have just put up our Instructions display in class. The children made honey biscuits last week and then wrote instructions based on how to make them. They tried to use time words and bossy verbs. They also numbered each step and ordered pictures to match. Here they are making their honey biscuits:
