As part of our topic, Britain at War, pupils have been studying and looking at war poetry. We have started writing our own war poems.
As part of the centenary of WW1 The Royal British Legion are trying to make sure everyone is remembered. The children will be publishing their poems on the website www.everymanremembered.org. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns and please read your child’s poem online.
Some of Year 6, visited the Community Voluntary Services of Broxbourne to give a boardroom presentation to ‘The Dragons’ for our Dragons’ den project. They spoke with such confidence and eloquence. We are very proud of all the children and the hard work they put into the project. They raised £355.08 for the Ethnic Minority Association of Broxbourne and we are so excited to see that money go to a good cause.
We have been working very hard in year 6 over the last term. We really enjoyed reading our class book ,Eren, and are really looking forward to the author coming to visit us. In maths, we have been focusing on our number skills and have been working hard on some practise tests.
Our new topic is Britain at War and we already have some great art work.
Please be reminded about the importance of reading at home and ensure the reading record is signed.
Here are some photos of what we have been up to.
This half-term has flown by and it has been fantastic! The children have been exploring our new topic-based curriculum and have been looking at ‘The Terrible Tudors.’ To start the topic off, we visited Hampton Court Palace. We then, learnt about Tudor medicine, dancing, sport and art. The pupils particularly enjoyed creating their own Tudor rose using cross stitch and creating their own frame out of wood.
The class have also been taking part in life-saving skills in their swimming lessons. These lessons will continue on Fridays after half- term so please continue to bring your kit. Homework will continue to be due in on a Wednesday and spelling and times table tests are on a Friday. Have a great half- term holiday!
In school we have been celebrating the birthday of the Queen. We took part in a commemorative plate painting workshop. Here is some of our hard work.
We also did some cooking after our SATS exams.
We also discovered that our school play is ‘Lights, Camera,Action!’ We have already been rehearsing very hard.
Well done to all the Year 6’s. You all worked very hard leading up to your SATS and you should all be proud.
We have been really busy in Year Six over the last few weeks. We visited the Natural History Museum to help our understanding of evolution. Don’t worry no one got eaten by a T-Rex!
Then, during our amazing computing week we visited Legoland. We learnt how to build our own robot lion and programmed it to sit up and lay down on command. Very impressive! The children also made their own movies and learnt how to create their own games.
Next week, the children will be taking their SATS test. They have been working very hard and we are all very proud of their efforts. Good Luck 6T !
