Teachers and other adults at Downfield create a positive climate for learning in which pupils are interested and engaged.
We work to ensure that all children have a positive attitude to school and believe they can achieve. Pupils and parents are aware of our high expectations. The exceptional organisation of teaching and learning ensures children have a rich and varied experience which enthuses, motivates and engages them in their learning.
Teachers inspire the pupils to learn through their energy, enthusiasm, the creative use of resources and the creation of inviting learning environments. Teachers are skilled at making learning interesting, using their knowledge of the pupils to plan lessons that meet individual learning needs.
We ensure that trips, visitors and practical elements offer real experiences to engage children through their IPC theme.
The emphasis throughout is on a broad and balanced curriculum, delivered in an innovative and engaging manner, with English, mathematics and computing at its core. At every opportunity pupils are challenged, questioned and encouraged to excel.
At Downfield we aim to nurture a life-long love of learning.
September 2016 sees a change to the curriculum at Downfield School. We are all excited about our new ‘topic based curriculum’. This curriculum has been designed and written by us with a thematic or topic based approach at its heart. The topics endeavour to include as many curricular subjects as possible making links and connections between learning.
